Congratulations and welcome, we would love to travel with you!
Every year, around 750 adults join the Roman Catholic Church in the Netherlands. Last year, 6 people joined the church in the Catherine parish. People who join a church community later in life make a very conscious choice. Their experiences are very different: one has no religious background, the other, for example, is from a Protestant background.
The process by which adults are received into the Roman Catholic Church are three sacraments: Holy Baptism, Holy Confirmation, and First Holy Communion or Eucharist. If you have already been baptized, then this obviously does not need to be done again.
Have you not been baptized yet? The recording then normally proceeds in a number of phases. Easter night is ideally the night before Baptism, but this can also be done at any other time of the year.
The preparation depends greatly on your history, but there are five points that are important in the preparation:
1) introduction to the Holy Scriptures.
2) life as a Christian.
3) contact with the religious community.
4) discovering and learning about the liturgy and the sacraments.
5) prayer.
If you, as an adult, are thinking about becoming Catholic, we would like to guide you in this. You can contact us for a personal and exploratory conversation with pastor Jochem van Velthoven (pastoor@catharina-parochie.nl).
